{"id":106,"date":"2016-03-11T18:25:20","date_gmt":"2016-03-12T02:25:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nathanbak.com\/?p=106"},"modified":"2026-01-02T20:02:38","modified_gmt":"2026-01-03T04:02:38","slug":"the-machine-that-goes-ping","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nathanbak.com\/?p=106","title":{"rendered":"The machine that goes ping"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tKodtNFpzBA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Yesterday I learned that as of 1 April I will no longer be employed with IBM.\u00a0 Instead, I am being given an opportunity to work for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.persistent.com\/\">Persistent Systems Limited<\/a>.\u00a0 The transaction is vaguely described <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moneycontrol.com\/news\/announcements\/persistent-systems-signs-agreementibm_5837981.html\">here<\/a>.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll still be doing pretty much the same job, but as a contractor rather than an IBM employee.<\/p>\n<p>While sitting in various meetings hearing about what&#8217;s going on, most of the discussion was about the business side of things&#8211;apparently it&#8217;s a win-win for both companies.\u00a0 While hearing about it, it made me think of the machine that goes ping.\u00a0 It is apparently very clever to lease it back from the company they sold it to and everyone gets excited about that.\u00a0 My situation may be similar to the machine that goes ping, but in some ways I felt more like the woman in labor who is being ignored.<\/p>\n<p>Today I got some more information.\u00a0 While this change is a surprise, it seems like both IBM and Persistent are making an effort to make this a good opportunity for me.\u00a0 I&#8217;m optimistic that it will be a win-win-win:\u00a0 a win for both companies and a win for me as well.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday I learned that as of 1 April I will no longer be employed with IBM.\u00a0 Instead, I am being given an opportunity to work for Persistent Systems Limited.\u00a0 The transaction is vaguely described here.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll still be doing pretty much the same job, but as a contractor rather than an IBM employee.
